Two-Phase Treatment

Two-Phase Treatment

Early intervention combines jaw guidance and tooth alignment to achieve a stable, healthy smile that lasts a lifetime. Skipping timely treatment often leads to more complex, invasive procedures—sometimes including extractions or jaw surgery—down the road.

Phase One: Early Intervention

Starting as young as six to eight years old, we gently guide jaw growth and create space for incoming permanent teeth. By intercepting bite issues and jaw discrepancies early, we can often avoid extractions or more invasive treatments later on. During this stage, we may use expanders or other appliances tailored to your child’s needs, then pause active treatment to let new teeth emerge naturally under six‑month checkups.

Resting Period: Observation & Growth

Once the first-phase appliances are removed, we monitor eruption and alignment without intervention, allowing the permanent teeth to find their path. Periodic visits ensure any unexpected changes are addressed quickly, maintaining the progress made and preventing crowding or impaction.

Phase Two: Precision Alignment

After all permanent teeth have come in—usually around age 11 or older—we place full upper and lower braces to fine‑tune each tooth’s position. This phase, which lasts approximately two years on average, focuses on achieving perfect harmony between the teeth, jaws, lips, and cheeks for optimal function and aesthetics.

Retention: Protecting the Result

When braces are removed, we provide custom retainers to hold teeth in their ideal positions as the surrounding bone and tissues stabilize. Consistent retainer wear ensures your child’s smile remains healthy, beautifully aligned, and ready to last a lifetime.
