TADs

Temporary anchorage devices—often called TADs—are tiny titanium anchors we place into the jawbone to give your braces added stability. By serving as fixed “handles,” TADs enable us to apply precise forces to move teeth more quickly and comfortably, and in some cases, eliminate the need for bulky headgear.
Placement & Removal
After numbing the area with a local anesthetic, your orthodontist will gently insert the TAD through your gum and into the bone. The entire process is brief, and you’ll feel only slight pressure. Once your tooth movement is complete—or the anchor is no longer needed—the TAD is removed just as easily, in a quick, comfortable appointment.
Comfort & Care
Mild soreness after placement is normal; over‑the‑counter ibuprofen or acetaminophen usually eases any discomfort. To keep your TAD and braces clean, brush thoroughly around the anchor three times a day and rinse with the antimicrobial mouthwash we provide. If soreness persists or you have any concerns, please contact us immediately.
