Surgical Orthodontics

Surgical orthodontics—also called orthognathic surgery—corrects significant jaw and bite discrepancies that can’t be fixed with braces alone. After your facial bones finish growing (around age 16 for girls, 18 for boys), your orthodontist may recommend surgery if your jaws don’t meet properly or if severe malocclusion is impacting your function or appearance. In these cases, we team up with an oral and maxillofacial surgeon to develop a coordinated plan that aligns your jaws and ensures optimal facial balance.
The treatment journey begins with braces to position your teeth for surgery, which typically takes a few hours in a hospital setting. You’ll spend about two weeks resting as your bones heal, then return to us for final orthodontic adjustments—typically wearing braces for an additional six to twelve months. Though every surgery carries some risk, orthognathic procedures are well-established. They can transform both oral health and self‑confidence, delivering a beautiful, lasting smile.
